Cerebras Systems is expanding its European AI infrastructure footprint with a new 165 MW data center campus in Mikkeli, Finland, developed with Compute Nordic Finland. The project will be delivered in phases, beginning with 50 MW already under construction, followed by expansion to 80 MW and ultimately 165 MW of contracted IT capacity. The capacity is covered by a series of service orders with seven-year contract terms, giving Cerebras a long-duration infrastructure base for its growing AI compute and inference business.

The Mikkeli campus is being engineered specifically for high-density AI computing, with closed-loop cooling designed to recirculate water rather than continuously draw from the municipal supply. The facility is also designed to support waste-heat recovery, potentially allowing thermal energy generated by the compute infrastructure to feed local heating applications. Cerebras CEO and co-founder Andrew Feldman said the combination is intended to increase the amount of useful AI computation delivered per megawatt. An impact assessment by Ramboll cited by the companies estimates investment of approximately €1.0 billion to €1.7 billion at the full 165 MW scale, supporting an estimated 80 to 250 permanent jobs and €0.8 million to €2.5 million in annual property-tax revenue.

The seven-year contracted structure is particularly notable because large AI infrastructure deployments increasingly depend on aligning accelerator demand with multi-year commitments for power, buildings, electrical equipment and cooling infrastructure. Here, Cerebras is securing physical capacity required to turn wafer-scale silicon into a cloud service rather than relying solely on selling systems to customers. The project also illustrates why Nordic locations remain attractive for high-density AI infrastructure: the Mikkeli site's closed-loop cooling and planned heat recovery address two increasingly consequential constraints on AI data center development, namely cooling and community impact.

What remains unknown is the timeline for reaching the full 165 MW scale, the specific customers or workloads expected to consume the contracted capacity, and the financial terms of the service orders beyond their seven-year duration.
