Meta has signed a 144MW solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Apex Clean Energy in Texas. The PPA is tied to the Starling Solar project in Gonzales County, with the plant's power supplied to the ERCOT grid rather than powering a Meta site directly. Construction at the solar site is currently underway, with commercial operations expected sometime in 2027.
The deal is the seventh between the two companies, bringing their combined capacity to 1.2GW. Previous agreements include a 61.6MW PPA in Virginia, a 200MW PPA in Texas, a 175MW PPA in Illinois, a 197MW PPA in Kansas, and a 224MW PPA in Iowa. As part of the new deal, Meta will obtain exclusive rights to all environmental attributes associated with the project's energy, including its renewable energy credits. Full financial terms have not been shared. Urvi Parekh, head of renewable energy at Meta, said the project will support the company's commitment to 100 percent renewable energy and help bring jobs and investment to the local community.
The agreement adds to Meta's growing renewable portfolio in Texas, where it has operational data center campuses in Fort Worth and Temple and is developing a third in El Paso slated for operations sometime in 2028. Meta has also recently signed a 220MW solar PPA with Sabanci Renewables and a corporate PPA with RWE for the under-development 298MW Rabbit's Foot Solar project in northeast Texas. Apex, based in Charlottesville, Virginia, has a development pipeline of more than 25GW and claims to have commercialized more than 12GW of clean energy generation since 2009.
What remains unknown is whether the Starling Solar project's output will be matched to any specific Meta facility or used more broadly to offset grid consumption across its Texas operations. The lack of disclosed financial terms also leaves the commercial structure of the agreement unclear, including pricing and contract duration. Because the source is a single secondary report, independent confirmation of project timelines and capacity figures was not available.
